Cambodia Gambling Halls

There is a captivating background to the Cambodia gambling dens that lie just across the dividing line from nearby Thailand, where gambling den betting is not allowed. Eight casinos are situated in a relatively small area in the city of Poipet in Cambodia. This conclave of Cambodia casinos is in a perfect spot, a 3 to 4 hour drive from Bangkok and Macao, the 2 most popular gambling centers in Asia. Cambodia gambling halls do a thriving business with Thai laborers and travelers from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with just a couple of Westerners. The phenomenal income gained from the gambling halls ranges from $7.5 million to more than 12.5 million dollars, and there are a few limitations requirements for gambling hall ownership. Ownership is assumed to be largely Thai; however, funding sources are ambiguous. The borders are ceremoniously open from 0900 to 5:00 p.m., and though visas are allegedly necessary to pass, there are methods and means around this, as is true of most border crossings.

The original Cambodia gambling dens premiered in Phnom Penh in the mid nineties, but were forced to close in 1998, leaving only 1 gambling hall in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a moored boat gambling den, contains one hundred and fifty slot machines and sixty gaming tables. The Naga river boat is open all day and night with forty two tables of mini-punto banco, 4 tables of chemin de fer, 10 of roulette, 2 of Caribbean Stud Poker, and 1 each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.

The original gambling hall in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, premiered in the late nineties and the Golden Crown soon opened. There are one hundred and fifty slots and five tables at the Golden Crown and 104 slot machines and sixty eight gaming tables at the Holiday Palace. The newest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort features 300 slot machine games and 70 tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has one hundred and sixty six slot machine games and 96 table games, including eighty seven baccarat (the most popular game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Also, there is the Casino Tropicana, with 135 slots and sixty six of the familiar gaming tables, as well as one table of Casino Stud Poker. One more of the eight casinos in Poipet, also a part of a hotel, is the Princess Casino with one hundred and sixty six slot machine games and ninety seven casino games. The Star Vegas Casino is is located in an all-inclusive resort and hotel complex that contains a number of conveniences aside from the gambling den, which offers ten thousand square feet of one hundred and thirty slot machines and 88 gaming tables.
