There is an interesting story to the Cambodia casinos that lie just over the dividing line from next door Thailand, in which gambling hall gambling is against the law. Eight gambling dens are based in a generally tiny area in the city of Poipet in Cambodia. This conclave of Cambodia gambling dens is in a prime destination, a 3 to four hour drive from Bangkok and Macao, the 2 biggest gambling locations in Asia. Cambodia gambling halls do a huge business with Thai blue-collar workers and tourists from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with only very few Westerners. The phenomenal capital acquired from the casinos ranges from 7.5 million dollars to over 12.5 million dollars, and there are a couple of limitations requirements for gambling den ownership. Ownership is presumed to be mainly Thai; although, financing sources are vague. The borders are officially open from 09:00 to 17:00, and though visas are allegedly required to cross, there are methods and means around this, as is correct of most border crossings.
The original Cambodia gambling dens premiered in Phnom Penh in 1994, but were required to close in the late nineties, leaving only one gambling den in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a stationary barge gambling den, features one hundred and fifty slots and 60 tables. The Naga river boat is open 24 hours with 42 tables of mini-baccarat banque, four tables of vingt-et-un, ten of roulette, two of Caribbean Stud Poker, and 1 each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.
The initial gambling den in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, premiered in 1999 and the Golden Crown quickly followed. There are one hundred and fifty slot machines and five table games at the Golden Crown and 104 one armed bandits and 68 table games at the Holiday Palace. The newest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort contains 300 slot machine games and 70 table games and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has one hundred and sixty six slot machine games and ninety six table games, including 87 baccarat chemin de fer (the most beloved game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Additionally, there is the Casino Tropicana, with one hundred and thirty five slot machines and sixty six of the familiar gaming tables, as well as 1 table of Casino Stud Poker. One more of the eight gambling dens in Poipet, also a part of a motel, is the Princess Casino with one hundred and sixty six slot machines and ninety seven casino games. The Star Vegas Casino is part of a comprehensive resort and hotel compound that highlights many amenities on top of the casino, which houses ten thousand square feet of 130 slot machines and 88 table games.
